While remodeling the home, the ceiling over the kitchen was opened and this mummified body of a long-departed squirrel came down with nearly 100 years of accumulated debris. I don't know how old it is, but I know that we have not heard anything in the attic since moving into this house in 1979, so I would guess that Old Squirrel is at least 30 years old, and probably much older.
There are only bones and leathery skin remaining. All organic tissues are long gone, as well as the fur and tail.

The German baby taken from his parents after they put him up for sale on eBay for a euro--apparently as a joke--is back home.
"The child has been returned to his parents," prosecutor Johannes Kreuzpointer said on Thursday.
The parents had told the authorities the posting had been a joke. Prosecutors eventually agreed and dropped their investigation into child trafficking, the news service reported.
The original ad that ran May 24 stated: "Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has gotten too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 28 inches long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller." The parents, both in their early 20s and residents of Unterallgau, were not identified. The bid price, 1 euro, is equivalent to about $1.57.
Otto Gaschler, deputy chief of youth services in Unterallgau, said that the posting was "like a game for them. They never thought that this stupid joke could have such an effect."
Gaschler said he didn't know how exactly how long the infant was away from home but said it was for several days. "The parents always had contact to their son," he noted. A social worker is checking on the family.

An eBay seller is claiming to have toast bearing the likeness of the creature that spurred a frenzy after beachgoers in New York's Hamptons discovered what they described as a stinking carcass that had washed ashore.
The Moore, Okla., seller ekrecords recounts on eBay how it happened during preparations for an antioxident-rich breakfast of pomegranate juice, fresh grapefruit, raisin bran, buttered toast and coffee:
"I was stopped in my tracks the moment I saw the ghostly impression of none other than the unbelievable 'Montauk Monster' laying peacefully in the slightly charred surface of my morning toast. A wave of both horror and wonderment washed over me as I quickly understood what the bystanders that found the actual beast must have felt during those fateful seconds on the beach."
The crispy creature was up to $2.75 and had attracted 14 bidders as of noon on Friday, yet it was not the only "Montauk Monster" item to wash up on eBay.
Other listings included a 99-cent oil-on-canvas portrait of the beast, which had no bids as of Friday afternoon, as well as a "custom-made prop" created from a sculpture and cast from latex. The prop was selling for $48.99 from a seller in Canada and by midday it had 11 bids.
On Thursday the Web site for a movie production crew claimed to have the actual "kidnapped" carcass.
The Web site montauk-monster.com reported Thursday that the crew of "Splinterheads," a movie about carnival life being filmed in Patchogue, N.Y. — not far from where the "monster" reportedly was found — posted the claim and a photo of the carcass on its Web site, splinterheadsmovie.com.
"We have the 'Montauk Monster,'" the site proclaims, along with a photo of the beast.

Curious as the situation may be, some of the questions from prospective eBay buyers seemed even more peculiar.
"Hello, what is the shipping for this etched piece of toast? Will it be hot with butter on it? And does it come with jam?" one inquirer wrote in a question-and-answer section.
But, alas, this interested individual might have better luck at a diner after reading the seller's response: "Shipping is a dollar and it was not etched. This is the way it came outta the toaster as seen in the picture. No butter or jam. Sorry."

I lived in the beautiful island city of Alameda, California for a few years. The beach was within walking distance of my home, and rarely a day would go by that I didn't jog on suntan on the beach.
There were always gorgeous sights to greet me (thong-clad hotties), but sometimes strange things washed up on the beach to mar the scenery. The tide would bring in everything from assorted trash to the remains of sea life that defied description.
But a monster has washed up on the beach in Montauk, New York that goes far beyond anything I've ever seen. Yes Virginia there are monsters in this world, and maybe the tide has delivered one to a beach near you. Be afraid, be very afraid.
The Montauk Monster has captured the imagination of millions worldwide. Instead of googling "Britney Spears nude pics" or "Paris Hilton sex tape", enquiring minds are googling "Montauk Monster."

Speculation about the identity of the Montauk Monster is rampant. Many skeptical Americans believe that the Montauk Monster is a publicity stunt. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-operated Plum Island animal testing facility is nearby, fueling the belief that the USDA is responsible; some would see the Montauk Monster as a hideous USDA experiment gone wrong while others might consider it a not -so-unexpected byproduct of animal experimentation. Gilbert provides us with some startling possibilities as to the nature of this monster, and they are worth considering.
It could be a publicity stunt by a studio to promote an upcoming horror movie: The Montauk Monster's Murderous Rampage!
I wouldn't rule out a sinister government operation, considering all the hideous things that the Bush administration is responsible for: Katrina aftermath, mortgage meltdown, Iraq war... The ill-conceived, illegal, botched Iraq war makes the Montauk Monster look like Jessica Alba.
Gilbert did a great job pointing out some possible explanations for the Montauk Monster, but I have a couple of my own.
The Montauk Monster could be the illegitimate offspring of Dick Cheney and Madeline Albright. I concede that the monster is better looking than Cheney and Albright, but sometimes ugly parents produce a child that is better looking than them.
It could be the pitiful remains of the John McCain presidential campaign, a coroner should pronounce this turkey dead.
The most important question is "What is it?", the next important question is "What should be done with the remains of the Montauk Monster?
It's a good thing that the Montauk Monster wasn't found in trailer park in Kentucky -- it would have been deep fried and served up for dinner by now.
This monster has really scared the BeJesus out of me, I believe it should be nuked to Kingdom Come.
